Up and down use different paths, so you never see the same view twice. Climb from Yeonggak to Samjabong, cross Seobong, touch the Namdeogyusan summit and come back down toward Yeonggaje, about 10.5 km in all. The ridge flattens briefly between Seobong and the summit, the best place all day to catch your breath. The stairs just below the top are steep.
