From Jungnyeong to the observatory on Yeonhwabong is about 7 km one way and takes two and a half to three hours. The first four-plus kilometres to the Jejin-Yeonhwabong shelter are paved, easy walking but plain. Past the shelter the path climbs to open grass and azaleas, with the observatory dome on top of Yeonhwabong.
