From the Huibang ranger station you pass Huibangsa temple and haul over the Kkaldak ridge to reach Yeonhwabong. It is 4.4 km and about two hours twenty up. You walk to the temple beside the sound of the stream, then the trail tips sharply upward behind it. Catch your breath at the pass and the ridge opens, with the observatory dome in view.
