The first 3 km to Biseondae are a stroll; everything after is the real work. The trail leaves the stream, climbs into forest and averages a slope above 35 percent. After about three hours you reach the Maneungnyeong junction, where one way runs onto Gongnyong Ridge and the other drops to Oseam. Many start around 3 a.m.
