The Hwanggol route passes Ipseoksa and the rocks of Ipseokdae before climbing to the ridge. It is quieter than the Guryong side, and the temple pagoda and rocky stretches act as rest stops. Many people allow most of a half day for the ascent alone. Descending to Guryongsa from the top links the two routes.
