You do not need the summit to enjoy the Guryongsa approach. The path starts in front of the temple, passes the Geumgang Solbit ecology centre and follows the stream up gently to Seryeom Falls, about 0.7 km to the centre and 1.5 km from there to the falls. The falls sit right where the steep Sadari-byeongchang climb begins, so this is where walkers turn back and summit hikers turn uphill. Starting from the car park adds another 1.1 km.
