It is 7 km one way from the Hwaeomsa car park, past Yeongiam and Muneonggi, to the Nogodan pass. Starting a little over 200 m above sea level and finishing near 1,400 m, it is far longer than the Seongsamjae approach and climbs nearly the whole way. Yeongiam is about an hour in and Muneonggi roughly three hours beyond that. Because you have walked every metre of the height, the moment the ridge opens at the pass feels earned.
