You start below the Yeongsil rock spires, climb the Byeongpung ridge, cross the Seonjakjiwat plateau and rest at Witseoreum. The south-wall circuit then thins the crowd out, and the crater wall looms over Nambyeok Junction. From there the Donnaeko trail drops past the Pyeonggwe shelter, trading Korean fir for camellia as you lose height. It is one of the longest crossings on the mountain, and you come out on the Seogwipo side, so arrange the ride back in advance.
