From the car park you follow the stream, then slip into forest. After about an hour and twenty minutes the huge Ssalbawi rock appears, and the summit comes into reach through rocky ridge. About 7.2 km round trip with some 700 m of climbing, longer than the tunnel route but a better walk. On the way down you can stop at Seoknamsa.
