Yumyeongsan hike info

Yumyeongsan is a gentle 864 m mountain in Gapyeong, about an hour and a half from Seoul. Its old name, Mayusan, means 'mountain where horses were let to roam', and the rounded ridges fit that. Families climb it a lot. The top is a broad swell of silver grass, and on a clear day paragliders lift off from the launch site right beside it.

The usual way up runs through a pine and nut-pine forest onto the ridge, and you can come down by the valley, where a string of pools called Madangso, Yongso and Bakjwiso draw waders in summer. The valley path is a rubble of boulders, so it is better as the way down than the way up.

From the summit you see Cheongpyeong Lake and the Bukhan River to the north, the Namhan River to the south, and layers of ridges from Yongmunsan to Hwaaksan. Autumn grass season is the busiest.
