At the Gyeongpodae fork, 1.0 km in, take the left branch toward Baram Pass instead of the summit. From the Baram Pass junction, Gujeongbong is another 0.5 km. You get the rock ridge and the pitted top of Gujeongbong without committing to the summit, so half a day is enough. Pushing on to Cheonhwangbong means a long drop and a long climb, so decide on Gujeongbong as your goal.
