The walk begins at the top of Hwabangjae on National Route 31. You follow the road down to the Yuilsa entrance, then it is the same as the Yuilsa route. It adds a road stretch and some time to that route, so it suits a day when you want a longer walk. Baekdudaegan through-hikers who break at the pass also use it to reach the altar.
