From the Iljumun gate you climb Habaekundae, Jungbaekundae and Sangbaekundae in turn, cross the sharp Calbawi section and drop towards Seonnyeotang. It is almost an hour shorter than the full loop to Gongjubong yet keeps most of the ridge. The valley side is quieter than the summit route even in foliage season. Take Calbawi slowly; the rock is jagged.
