Seonginbong hike info

Seonginbong is the highest point of Ulleungdo and sits right in the middle of the island. It is 986.5 m, but because you start almost at sea level, the climb is steady from the first step. The Dodong route begins beside Daewonsa temple at the back of town and slips into forest within minutes; further up, leaves close the sky and the light turns dim even at noon.

What sets the mountain apart is the forest: beech, white pine and hemlock stand shoulder to shoulder, with moss on every rock. Many plants here grow only on Ulleungdo, and the whole stand is a protected natural monument. On cloudy days the top can vanish into fog, and in winter the snow lies waist deep.

Just past the summit there is a spot that looks down toward Nari Basin. Most people either return to Dodong or cross over to Nari Basin and Cheonbu on the north side. Coming down to Nari, the only flat ground on the island, a mountain-greens meal is waiting.
