Paryeongsan hike info
Paryeongsan stands at the tip of the Goheung peninsula looking down at the sea. At 606.9 m it is not tall, but eight rocky peaks, from No. 1 Yuyeongbong to No. 8 Jeokchwibong, run along the ridge like saw teeth. Most have ropes and iron stairs, so you spend more time scrambling than walking. The name comes from a story of a Chinese king who saw eight peaks reflected in his washbasin and sent men to find them.
The true high point is not one of the eight but Gitdaebong, a rounded, wooded summit just to the south, with less of a view than the ridge. On the ridge itself the sea of islands opens in every direction, and on clear days it stretches far beyond. Some mornings sea mist rolls in below you.
In October and November some routes run on reservation, with 350 people a day. The ridge is windy in any season, so bring a windbreaker, and shoes with good grip help on the bare rock.
