Naejangsan hike info
Naejangsan does not win on height. Its highest point, Sinseonbong, is 763 m, and a ring of peaks curls around the inner valley like a horseshoe. The name means roughly 'hidden inside', and it fits: from outside it looks ordinary, but once in you meet the rock wall of Seoraebong, then Yeonjibong and Kkachibong in turn.
In late October the road from the main gate to Naejangsa temple turns into a tunnel of red maples. People queue before dawn for one shot, maples reflected in the Uhwajeong pond. In peak season traffic backs up at the entrance and you transfer to a shuttle from the car parks, so arrive before sunrise or go on a weekday.
There are three ways to walk it. Take the cable car to the Yeonjabong lookout and it is only 1.1 km to Sinseonbong. Rock lovers can climb the Seoraebong ridge, and strong walkers link Seoraebong, Yeonjibong, Kkachibong and Sinseonbong in one long day.
