About an hour up the forest path from Hwangryongsa you reach the Sammajaegol signpost. Turn right and the climb leads to Samdobong, the peak where Chungbuk, Jeonbuk and Gyeongbuk meet, marked by a monument to the three provinces. From the saddle you see the Deogyusan foothills and the Gaya ridge to the south, and Hwangaksan beyond Milmokjae. You skip Seokgibong and the main summit and return the way you came, so it is far lighter than the big loop.
