Minjujisan hike info

Minjujisan rises to 1,242 m at the point where Yeongdong in Chungbuk, Muju in Jeonbuk and Gimcheon in Gyeongbuk meet. It sits deep in the Sobaek range, so ridges fold away in every direction, and the upper slopes are mostly soil and trees rather than bare rock, which is kind on the feet. South of the summit the ridge runs on to Seokgibong and Samdobong; to the north lies Gakhosan.

The usual way in is Mulhan-ri in Sangchon, Yeongdong. The valley starts at Hwangryongsa temple and runs on for kilometres, with water cold enough that few people keep their feet in for long even in midsummer. Oksso, Uiyonggol and Eumjuam falls line the path in turn, so half the hike goes by to the sound of water. In winter the same trail turns to rime and snow blossom, and people come on purpose for it.

The other approach starts at Domaryeong, the 24-bend pass at about 800 m. From there you walk over Gakhosan to the summit. There is less climbing but a longer ridge. The pass road colours first in autumn, then the mountain follows.
