Jeombongsan hike info

Jeombongsan is the spot just south of Seoraksan where the Baekdudaegan spine swells up once more. The summit is 1,426 m, but what people actually visit is Gombaeryeong, a meadow ridge lower down. The forest around it has been left mostly alone, thick with Mongolian oak and birch, and from spring to autumn a changing sequence of wildflowers fills the grass.

The Gombaeryeong trail is by reservation only. You show ID at the centre at your slot, collect a pass, then follow the stream past Gangseon village up to the flowers. The climb is gentle enough to enjoy, and from late June to early August the ridge meadow turns yellow and violet. In autumn the colour climbs the slope from below.

The summit itself sits inside a protected area and is off limits to regular hikers, so going to Jeombongsan usually means going to Gombaeryeong. From Osaek you can see it rising as a rounded hump just behind Seoraksan's northwestern ridge.
