Huiyangsan hike info
A rock mountain of about 996 m on the border between Mungyeong and Goesan. Its east, south and west faces are sheer white granite, and on a clear day they flash in the sun just as the name says. Deep inside sits Bongamsa temple, founded in the Silla era, and the Baekdu-daegan ridge runs right beside the peak.
Ordinary hikers start from Eunti village on the Goesan side. Past the village edge, a stony valley path climbs toward Jireumti pass, and then come Mirobawi rock and a narrow rock gap you haul yourself up on a rope. The summit ridge is bare rock, breezy, with pines clinging to the cliff edges. A long run of stacked-stone fortress wall follows the north ridge, and nobody has settled who built it.
The best photo of the cliff is from Guwangbong (898 m) across the way. The Bongamsa side is closed at the temple's request and the summit stretch has a closure sign too, so ask Goesan county about the current situation before you go.
