This is the real climb, where the Unduryeong route is more of a ridge walk. You start in the village of Nodong-ri, follow a gully upstream, grind over a long boulder field and reach a grove of yews that stand around 15 m tall. The ascent to the summit is close to 800 m, nearly double the pass route. The ridge feels much bigger when you finally stand on it.
