Geumsusan hike info

Geumsusan is a 1,016 m peak straddling Jecheon and Danyang in Chungbuk, at the northern end of Woraksan National Park, looking down on Chungju Lake. It was once called Baegamsan; legend says Yi Hwang, governor of Danyang, renamed it for scenery like embroidered silk. Rock ridges and iron stairs near the top make it slower than the distance suggests.

Autumn is busiest. Late October colour spreads red between the granite ridges, and from the top the lake and the Woraksan ridges share one frame. In summer many people walk the cool Eoreumgol valley from Neunggang.

Trailheads are Sanghak and Sangcheon on the Danyang side and Neunggang on the Jecheon side. The Sanghak loop is the usual choice; crossing Mangdeokbong to Sangcheon takes most of a day. Expect the summit to run 5-10 C colder than the base.
