Geumosan hike info

Geumosan is a 976.5 m rocky mountain rising right beside the city of Gumi. Its name, 'golden crow', comes from an old story about the setting sun looking like a golden bird in flight. From the summit, Hyeonwolbong, you see Gumi's streets and the Nakdong River plain, and on a clear day ridge after ridge behind them.

The main path starts under pine trees, passes the gates of the old mountain fortress and climbs toward Haeunsa temple. After Daehye Falls you meet Halttak Pass, a stretch of more than 500 steps that earns its name, which roughly means 'gasping'. The last bit before the top is bare rock, and you use your hands.

There is a cable car, so if your legs are doubtful you can ride up to the middle slope. Even without the summit there is plenty to see: the suspension bridge and bell tower on the cliff at Yaksaam, and Doseon Cave, where a monk is said to have trained. On autumn weekends the car parks fill early.
