Garisan hike info

Garisan, 1,051 m, sits between Dochon in Hongcheon and Buksan in Chuncheon. The lower slopes are soft earth and deep forest, then the top changes character: three granite crags separated by narrow gaps, crossed with ladders and ropes. People who walked up thinking it was a gentle hill tend to catch their breath here.

From the second crag you look across at the first, and the rock stands up like a face, hence the name Big Rock Face. To the northwest the arms of Soyang Lake stretch out, and below the crags there is a small spring. Azaleas in spring, maples in autumn and snowy ridges in winter give it a different look each season.

The usual start is the Garisan Natural Recreation Forest on the Hongcheon side. A forest path from the car park climbs to a fork where two routes split; go up one and come down the other and you are back at the start. From the Chuncheon side there is also a way in that uses a Soyang Lake boat.
