Gangcheonsan hike info
Gangcheonsan is a small mountain at 585.8 m, but past the ticket gate a flat path of about 5 km runs along the stream with rock walls rising over it like folding screens. Strollers and wheelchairs go in, so anyone in comfortable shoes can walk it. There is even a red-clay barefoot trail with a foot-washing spot.
In autumn the valley is packed with maples. Colour is usually deepest from the first week of November to mid-month, and on weekends the car parks fill early. At the end of the path Gujanggun Falls drops in three tiers for roughly 120 m, and a suspension bridge sways about 50 m above the gorge. Byeongpung Falls near the entrance was built in 2003, but the water sliding down a 40 m rock wall is cool in summer all the same.
There is a proper summit route too. Above the falls, Gitdaebong, Wangjabong and Hyeongjebong line up in a row, and from Wangjabong the Sunchang plain opens out below. It takes about three hours, so many people climb in the morning and walk the valley path back down.
