Gamaksan hike info
Gamaksan straddles the borders of Paju, Yangju and Yeoncheon and stands 674.9 m high. It is modest in height but counts among the five great peaks of northern Gyeonggi. From the top the view opens toward the Imjin River plain, and on clear days you can see the ranges to the north.
Beside the summit stands an old stele whose letters have worn away. Several stories are told about who it honoured. Down in the Seolmacheon valley hangs a 150 m footbridge, 45 m above the stream, and plenty of people come just to walk across it. Start at the Beomnyunsa side and the path gives you forest, a spring and then rocky ridge in turn.
Imkkeokjeongbong and Kkachibong are the rock peaks that give the mountain its bite. Autumn colour runs along the ridge, and in winter Ungye Falls freezes into an ice wall. A full loop takes about half a day, so it works as a day trip from Seoul.
