The start is the pass where General Kwon Yul held off the Japanese at the battle of Ichi in the Imjin War. Past a pair of totem posts at the entrance gate, a long deck stair leads to a first lookout at the Anpyeong ridge junction. Then come Saengaedae and Nakjodae before the pioneer tower on Maecheondae. The 3.44 km takes about 3 hours because the climbing barely lets up, but you leave the Wanju crowds far behind.
