Byeonsan hike info

Byeonsan looks easy on paper at 459 m, but the trails are rocky ridge almost the whole way. The range rises straight from the Yellow Sea, so from the ridge you see the reservoir and wooded valleys on one side and open sea on the other. The highest point, Uisangbong, tops 500 m, while the 459 m on the Forest Service list belongs to Ssangseonbong.

Deep in the Naebyeon area is Jikso Falls, a single ribbon off a cliff into an emerald pool, best after summer rain. Down the valley an avenue of fir trees leads to Naesosa temple. The classic day links the falls, Gwaneumbong and the temple in one walk, and the fir avenue is at its best when the autumn sun slants low.

The trail to Ssangseonbong itself is sometimes closed, so many visitors never see its marker. They still fill the day with a sunset from Wolmyeongam hermitage or a stroll across the stacked cliffs of Chaeseokgang on the coast.
